I underwent Gastric bypass in Dec; 08, my weight was 140 kgs. I had a voracious appetite before surgery, now I have 2 gujarati phulka, dal, vegetable and feel full.I enjoy my outings and feel nice when people compliment me on my weight loss of over 40kgs. Its more than a year after my surgery , I have lost 40 kgs from 107 to 69 kgs. I feel energetic & active throughout the day. I get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and I go to gym everyday for two hours for toning my body. I also engage myself in different creative and social work. I feel so happy that I go on for the whole day without getting tired & the best thing is that I can wear whatever I wish. Due to excess weight, I was ashamed to wear saree or even denims, but now, I feel comfortable in any kind of clothes. I have no extra fat bulging out now. I have also overcome my snoring problem which used to keep my family awake at night & now I don't face problems like back pain. I am Milind Kadam, 41 yrs and a lawyer by profession. Before surgery, I was lethargic, uncomfortable and always worried about my obesity. I was not regular at courts. I lost 10-12 kgs weight twice or thrice on diets but it would not last and I would put on weight more rapidly. I was diabetic since 2004. Two years back, I came across news on bariatric surgery, initially I was afraid of surgery and my relatives opposed but then I took a good decision. Now after surgery I am always happy, active, energetic and above all optimistic. I gained a lot of confidence and am regular in my profession. My colleagues, friends and well wishers are impressed by me and admire me and people in the market etc whom I do not know stop and inquire about the secret of my weight loss. My personal experience is I feel 15-20 years younger. Before surgery, my waist was 58” and I could not wear jeans but I like to be stylish and wear them now. I have altered my clothes 4 times in the past 1 year. I could not wash properly, clean my back or sit cross legged which I can do comfortably now. I go to the gym for an hour or walk for 45 mts. The surgery has changed my life completely, I am thankful to Dr Ramen Goel for choosing me for a workshop surgery.

I consulted various physicians all over the country for co-morbidities but they persisted. Before surgery I had hypertension, sleep apnoea, diabetes & arthritis of both knees. After Gastric Bypass in ’07, has lost 40kgs, the snoring problem is over, feel no pain while walking and medicines for hypertension have stopped. ‘Life has become peaceful after surgery’, now my wife says ‘he used to lose temper frequently earlier'. I feel fit, relaxed and am happy with life now.

I run a soft drink manufacturing unit in Silvassa. I found myself dozing off at traffic signals while driving and snoring at night was a big issue, with our ground floor residents putting in several complaints. I had high BP and sleep apnoea and the inadequate sleep resulted in a voracious appetite. The prospect of going to bed with a CPAP machine was not appealing. I could not exercise with sciatica problem. I was 39 at 143 kgs. I underwent a gastric bypass in Nov’07, my blood pressure and sleep apnoea have gone. I am happy that my business has improved tremendously because now I can actively supervise in the factory after losing 60kgs.

Wiife Parin put on weight after marriage and child birth to 135 kgs.
I was so lethargic, I could not do the housework .If the maid did not turn up, the house was in a mess. We tried losing weight avoiding desserts and fried foods, but this would not work and we used to give up. I underwent sleeve gastrectomy in’08 and am maintaining at 73/74 kgs, I have started catering from home and am very busy.

Before the operation, I would like to say that I had lost every hope of life and could not find any solace, I could not walk a single step, my weight was 94 Kgs. I had no confidence in life but nowadays my body weight is 67 Kgs, my B.P. & sugar is in control, I can walk up to 3 Kms. I am feeling a lot better. I take my diet regularly and now I can do everything. Overall I feel healthy in comparison with my previous life.

Mr Pawar was on insulin pump before surgery & had lost vision due to diabetes. After gastric bypass, his sugar levels are well controlled without medication & he is physically much active. We do not know impact of surgery in avoiding diabetes complications but I do agree that if we could have operated him earlier, vision loss might have been avoided/delayed.
